Local design studioMamais took on the ambitious task to complete the renovation of a Manhattan Upper West Side duplex apartment.

The challenge consisted of renovating the entire space while maintaining the key details of the historic brownstone building in which the duplex is located.

For this cozy duplex apartment, the task of making the space livable required the architect to think creatively to accommodate all of the necessities for an apartment living.

The scope included the essential rooms such as the kitchen, a living room, a bedroom with bathroom plus the large classic staircase.

The course of the renovations included rough framing and drywall processes, installing wood herringbone floors, tiling, finish carpentry, custom kitchen cabinets, custom wood weight and pulley windows, painting, placing bluestone pavers at the courtyard and exterior steel stairs.

The designers also managed to coordinate all the mechanical, plumbing and electrical trades of the apartment.

The key decor element of the living room is a classical chimney, painted in a golden shade that contrasts with the pure white walls. The open space merges the kitchen, the dining room, and the living room.

The architects focused on the decor details while keeping the walls and the floor in neutral or monochromatic tones. Silver shiny appliances in the kitchen combine with bright colored elements in the crockery and the furniture.

The luxurious touch of the apartment is given by the brown wooden framed mirror in the entrance hall completed by the beautiful hand sculpted motifs in the wooden staircase.
