BOX OFFICE
TREASURER The role of the Box Office Treasurer at any theatre is a crucial one. Generally the treasurer is the only person in the company with whom the public has direct contact. The impression made by the treasurer can and does influence the way a customer approaches the show and the way he or she approaches the idea of a return visit. The job requires an out-going and engaging personality, tact, patience, intelligence, and quick-wittedness. Accuracy in arithmetic is required as is neatness of appearance. The personal integrity and honesty of the applicant should be addressed in the letters of recommendation. The successful applicant is generally an undergraduate (although a superior candidate who is a junior or senior in high school will be considered) who is interested in learning about all aspects of professional box office management. Prior experience is helpful, but not required. This is a learning situation and a good Box Office Treasurer can usually expect to be considered for work at a professional theatre after a year with CLOC. The Treasurers (there are two) are responsible for the operation of the Box Office under the supervision of the Business Manager. They keep accurate records of the ticket transactions and balance all Box Office business at the end of the day. In a normal week one treasurer works Monday morning and evening, Tuesday afternoon and two hours in the evening, Wednesday morning and evening, Thursday afternoon and two hours in the evening, Friday morning and evening, and Saturday afternoon and two hours in the evening. The other treasurer would work Monday afternoon, two hours in the evening, Tuesday morning and evening and so on. Both treasurers work the Thursday matinee. Prior to the first show the hours vary and during the time when pre-season orders are being filled both treasurers work all three shifts. Sundays are free. The position pays room and board and a stipend. Please call the number below or e-mail cloc@Oberlin.edu for the amount of the stipend. Employment dates are usually from the first weekend in June and goes for 11 weeks. Possession of a car is especially helpful and mileage will be reimbursed on trips to and from the theatre.
