ASSISTANT BUSINESS MANAGER
The Assistant Business Manager serves, in effect, as an apprentice in the Business Office. He or she is normally an undergraduate with some experience in the business end of theatre. The position provides an opportunity to learn the various aspects of theatre management including box office and house management.
The Assistant Business Manager is specifically responsible for performing work related to bookkeeping, billing, typing letters to patrons and sponsors, keeping fund raising records, preparing and updating mailing lists, and some routine typing. He or she serves as House Manager at performances and, in that capacity, is responsible for the smooth running of the shows on the house side. The House Manager is responsible for auditing the house stubs and balancing counts with those of the Box Office Treasurers.
Normal working hours for the position are 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., 2:00-5:00 p.m., and evenings at performances. Sundays are free. These hours will, in actuality, vary considerably from day to day and an efficient person will find there is considerably more time off than is indicated. This is not a 9 to 5 job in the sense that you have to put in a certain number of hours each week. Rather it is job-oriented with a scheduled number of tasks which must be completed by a certain day.
We are looking for a person for this job who is eager to learn about theatre business practice and who is a fairly skilled typist and word processor. CLOC records are computerized and knowledge of New Word and Apple processing programs is very helpful. Basic mathematical skills are also essential. We seek someone who is quick-witted and able to handle problems with people in a calm and authoritative manner. Possession of a car would be very helpful.
